I really believe that it’s essential to identify the toxic habits in your life and to cut them out as soon as possible. Even if they seem innocent they do sabotage your success. Most of the time we fail to realize that we might be practicing toxic habits daily. You might be wondering, what makes a habit toxic? A toxic habit is something you do that with time is harming your mental or physical health. As well as something that affects your results and your ultimate happiness in the long run.
I have practiced all of these habits in the past, and still have to monitor myself daily for not going back to them. It requires some discipline to resist something that was so familiar for a long time. So here is a list of 10 toxic habits you should quit immediately!

1. Not believing that you deserve the best
Only you can define your own worth, and no one else. And if you allow other people to mistreat you, they will. And if you show other people that you know what’s your worth, they will respect you and will learn to treat you the way you want to be treated.
And I really believe that self-love and believing that you deserve the best go together. In the past, I didn’t believe that I deserve the best. “The best” seemed a too big word to me. However, when I started loving myself and always prioritizing myself and my own well-being, that toxic habit of thinking I’m not enough and I’m not worthy enough vanished altogether.
2. Not writing down your goals
You probably have heard many times that you should have a journal and write down your goals, but still, you oftentimes may feel lazy to do it.
This is also a toxic habit – to feel lazy to do something that could be beneficial for you or to try it for a short period of time and give up if you don’t see results immediately.
However, probably all very successful people have journals where they write down their goals, the steps to achieve them, and positive affirmations.
I’m following one millionaire motivational speaker/coach, and he always emphasizes that you have to know exactly what you want in order to achieve it because your brain does not understand anything that’s vague.
So you always have to be very clear about what it is exactly that you want. But the interesting part is that most people don’t know what they want. Their goals are very vague, like “to be rich”, to be “happy”, to be “successful”, etc.
But you have to know specifically what happiness, success, and wealth mean to you personally. And writing everything down and being very descriptive will help you to figure it all out and to achieve it faster and easier.
3. Checking your phone as soon as you wake up
When you wake up your subconscious mind is like a sponge and whatever you think and feel sinks deep into your subconscious mind.
The first thing that the majority of people do after they wake up is checking their phones. However, you can never know how you will be feeling after you have checked your social media, read your emails and messages. It all has the power to make you feel stressed, sad, angry, jealous, etc.
I learned that the first thing that you should do after you wake up is to be grateful for what you have because gratitude is one of the most powerful and positive emotions. Not only gratitude has one of the highest vibrations on the emotional vibration scale, but it also has the power to accumulate more of what you feel grateful for.
Also, if you’re not grateful for what you have now, you can’t attract anything better in your life.
It’s essential to start a day with very positive emotions. You can even go through your goals in your mind and visualize them experiencing all the elevated emotions – gratitude, love joy, excitement, that you would be feeling if you achieved them.
4. Complaining and regretting
These emotions are very toxic. Every time when I catch myself complaining or regretting, I stop myself immediately so I don’t dwell on these emotions. Because if you complain it means that you see yourself as a victim and that you don’t believe that you are the creator of your life and that you control it. This is a very disempowering habit.
And if you tend to regret a lot, you focus on what’s already in the past and you can miss current opportunities. This way you lose so much energy on what you can’t change and give away your power to change your current situation for a better future.
5. Not monitoring your thoughts and emotions
So first comes thought and then emotion follows. However, the power of emotions is much stronger than that of thoughts. It’s essential to monitor your daily thoughts and emotions because they have the power to create your life. So whenever you start thinking something negative, stop yourself immediately and change those thoughts into positive and empowering ones.
Because if you don’t, those thoughts will evoke emotions of fear, lack, anxiety, anger, and together these thoughts and emotions will shape your reality. So whenever you start feeling fear, anxiety, or feel depressed, do something immediately that makes you feel good, so you don’t dwell on those low vibration and destructive emotions.
6. Not monitoring your self-talk
This one is very similar to the previous one – monitoring your thoughts and emotions, however, monitoring your self-talk is more about what you tell yourself and others specifically about yourself.
I’m currently reading an amazing book ‘What to Say When You Speak to Yourself’ by Ph. D. Shad Helmstetter, and I really recommend it, it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s explained there that the human mind is the most powerful computer of all, that believes and records everything that you tell it. As well as what other people tell you about about yourself and life in general. This is called mind programming.
And the biggest programming happened when we were children – everything that we were told about ourselves, whether it was positive or negative, sank deep into our subconscious minds, and all our further lives were built upon those beliefs.
However, there are ways to eliminate these beliefs, and all the methods are described in that book. And ultimately, as the author explains, the only thing that separates a winner from someone who always fails is their self-talk.
7. Being with negative people
If you’re surrounded by negative people, that don’t believe in you or your dreams, that discourage you, this will definitely affect you and your belief in yourself. Spend time only with people that love you, inspire you, encourage you, and want the best for you.
What I “discovered” is that probably every person that is successful and rich today, in the past heard other people telling them that they are not good enough. But those other people were only expressing their own limitations and their limiting beliefs about themselves.
There are many ways other people can express negativity that may affect you. Whether it’s about you, your potential, your success, or your appearance. Also, there are many people that have very limiting beliefs and always talk about the lack of happiness, success, etc.
Simply limit the time you’re interacting with them, and become very selective about who you communicate with. Because if you want to change your life, you have to change your thoughts and emotions that you experience every day.
8. Procrastinating your dreams
It’s one of the most toxic habits. When you procrastinate working on your dreams and choose to do something else that is more enjoyable now, what you do is you choose an immediate gratification instead of doing something that would bring you a long-term result. And the truth is that time goes by really fast, and if you have a dream, you should work on it regularly and always prioritize it. Simply tell yourself that every day you’ll spend a certain amount of time working on your goals and dreams!
9. Not drinking enough water
Up to 60% of the human body consists of water. That’s why we should drink at least 2 l of water each day. If you’ll start doin this, soon you will notice that your skin has become much smoother and hydrated and that you feel much better. Water is essential not only for the skin but for the brain and all other organs.
Don’t forget to drink 1-2 glasses of water as soon as you wake up, because after long hours of sleeping your body is dehydrated.
I noticed that if I regularly drink 2 l of water every day, my skin looks hydrated and more glowing. And if I get out of the track, it becomes dull and dry fast.
10. Not taking care of your skin
I think it’s really common to get lazy and skip the morning/evening skincare routine and also skip some steps (like toner, serum, SPF, and face masks). Also, many women take care only of the skin on their face and neglect other areas, such as the neck, decollete, and hands. However, if you have a strong beauty routine every day, your skin will always be glowing and will stay young for much longer. And you will be much more confident in yourself!
