TOP 5 SKINCARE TRENDS FOR 2023
1. Skincare-Makeup Hybrids
This is all about bluring the lines between skincare and makeup products. There is already an increased interest in multi-purpose products, and this trend will continue into 2023. We will be seeking to improve our skin’s health even whilst wearing makeup, so makeup products with skincare ingredients will be a hit.
Examples: BB creams with UV protection, lip oils instead of lip gloss.
Purlisse Radiant Glow Illuminating BB Cream Spf30 – tinted face sunscreen that evens skin tone and hides imperfections, at the same time hydrates the skin and protects it from free radicals.
Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Color Balm SPF 50 protects lips from UV rays and gives color to lips and cheeks.
NK Pure Lip Oil – hydrating lip oil that gives your lips a pink tint and makes them extra glossy.
2. Skinminimalism
There is a general movement towards more minimalistic skincare routines, which already started in 2021. We’ll be seeking out formulas that incorporate different powerful ingredients in one formula. There is a tendency of moving away from layering different products (like in the Korean 10-step skincare routine), and instead using only a couple of product that do all the magic at once.
3. Bodycare as Skincare
This is all about giving as much attention to your body as well as your face. Body is often neglected when it comes to skincare. However in order to have beautiful skin, everything that you’re doing for your face you shoud bring on for the body as well. We can expect more products that target specific concerns and areas, as well as a lot of new type of products launched, such as body serums, body masks, products that contain retinol, etc. In general we’ll be looking for the same ingredients in body skincare products as we see in facial skincare.
4. Skin barrier health
We will see more emphasis on skin barrier health. A healthy skin barrier protects the skin from environmental aggressors, and keeps the skin hydrated all day due to better water retention.
You have probably already heard about ceramides. Ceramides are fats or lipids that are found in skin cells. They make up 30% to 40% of your outer skin layer, or epidermis. Ceramides are important for retaining your skin’s moisture. If your skin’s ceramide content decreases (which often happens with age), it can become dehydrated. SOURCE
In general, there is more emphasis put on skin’s health, its hydration and protection. You may want to use tinted sunscreen instead of foundation in order to protect the skin from UV rays and give it a beautiful tint at the same time.
Skin’s hydration will also play a huge part – women realize that it is so important to protect skin’s moisture barrier by constantly hydrating it with moisturizers, masks, face mists, etc. This helps reduce aging effects and makes your complexion plump, hydrated and glowing.
5. At-Home Skin Tech
In 2023 we will dedicate more time in using skincare tools that help clean skin and provide anti-aging effects. At-home devices such as LED light therapy will become more popular. This of course helps save money which would be otherwise spent on expensive skin treatments.
6. Sustainability
Many brands have started creating refillable skincare products, just like this KORA Organics’ Berry Bright Vitamin C Eye Cream. Although benefit to the environment depends on whether consumers reuse the product after a single use, it is amazing that beauty brands go for a more sustainable beauty-product packaging.
7. Skin care created by dermatologists
Dermatologists launching their own beauty brands will be on the rise. We are turning to more science-based besuty formulas and skincare specialists creating products based on their expertise and knowledge about skin care and specific skin concerns is exactly what we will be looking for.
