1. Sleep with hair tied in a ponytail
One of the main obsticles to grow waist long hair is the need to trim the ends every few months. Sleeping with your hair tied helps to protect the hair while sleeping thus minimizing hair friction against the pillow. This also helps prevent split ends. I’ve been using this method for the last several months and I can assure you that it works! The last time I had my hair trimmed was more than 3 months ago, and is still doesn’t require trimming. I highly recommend making this your new sleeping habit.
2. Use silk/satin scrunchies
When I started using these scrunchies, I immediately fell in love with them. They are so gentle on hair and glide easily over it, causing no snagging, tugging, and kinks that regular hair ties cause. Also, they look super cute and elegant.
3. Comb hair carefully
If I don’t comb my hair at least twice per day, it can get super tangled fast. If you have the same problem, it’s super important not to brush the hair agressively, but to detangle it with your fingers first. Also, always start brushing from the ends and only then from the top. This will help to minimmize the risk of hair breakage.
4. Moisturize and oil the ends
Always use a conditioner on the ends after the shampoo. Conditioners seal in moisture and help to de-tangle to prevent breakage and split ends. May favorite one is Natural Tech Renewing Conditioning Treatment by Davines. It’s very moisturizing and makes the hair super soft. I discovered Davines not long ago and all their products amazing for the hair! It’s an Italian brand used by hair care professionals. Their products are made with ingredients of natural origin, they don’t contain any toxic ingredients, and are cruelty-free.
As for hair oil I always use Moroccan argan oil. I use it every time after I wash my hair and sometimes before going to bed to help to minimize hair friction while sleeping.
5. Consume enough protein
Hair is made almost entirely of protein. For this reason, it’s important to consume enough protein every day. Protein is a nutrient essential for your body, and it cannot make this nutrient by itself. If you’re on a diet that is low in protein, your body will start “eating” protein from your hair, skin, and nails. Here are the best sources of protein from food:
- eggs
- nuts and seeds
- fish
- lower fat dairy products (milk, yogurt)
- beans, peas and lentils
- tofu, soybeans and soy products.
However, I personally always feel that I don’t consume enough protein per day. For this reason I use additional protein powder, and make delicious protein shakes daily using milk/soy milk, protein powder and banana.
